Big Day Out At Marlborough Festival!

Sunday 22nd June at the Town Hall, 12.30-7pm.

Poster for Marlborough Festival, a free event for the elderly/isolated, on June 22, 2025, from 12:30-7 PM at Town Hall. Features movie screening of 'Singin’ In The Rain,' fun activities by Wilts & Swindon Sport (WASP), and high tea by The Polly Tearooms. Sponsored by Wiltshire Council, BFI FAN, and The National Lottery.

Marlborough Festival presents a free event, for older and vulnerable adults in the Marlborough area, living alone and in care homes. We particularly hope to reach adults who would not normally consider attending festivals through lack of mobility, or through social isolation.

This event has been made possible with the help of Wiltshire Council, the Marlborough Area Board, the Transforming Care of Older People team at KAMP, the organisers of the Town Hall’s free Marlborough Christmas Lunch, and donations from local businesses (including Curate boutique, who continue to support us).

We welcome everyone, and will fill available spaces on a first come, first served basis. We can accommodate around 75 guests, plus carers as necessary.

Please register your interest by emailing: info@marlboroughfestival.com, and letting us know you want to come!

  • If you are working as a carer, and applying for a loved one or someone in your care, please remember to include yourself on the list.

  • If you are working in a care home or similar, please collate a list of the people who would like to come, let us know the exact number you would like to bring, and also bring the list of names with you on the day.

  • If you require transportation to the Town Hall, please let us know by emailing info@marlboroughfestival.com and giving us an address and a number of passengers, along with any extra needs.

  • The minibus service will prioritise people with mobility issues, so if you are able to get to the Town Hall under your own steam, please do so.

  • *If you would like to volunteer to help at the event, please let us know by emailing info@marlboroughfestival.com and someone will get back to you.

The BJ Richards Trust

Thanks to a gift from the BJ Richards Trust, part of the Wiltshire Community Fund, we will also have a limited number of tickets available for the Priory Gardens event on Saturday 21st June covered by them. This is limited to people who are resident in Marlborough. The tickets cover entry for a carer too, and include a meal.

We also have a limited number of tickets available for the Priory Gardens event on Saturday 21st June for people outside of Marlborough who identify as elderly/having mobility issues/socially isolated.

If you feel that you would like to join us on Saturday’s events as well, please get in touch! info@marlboroughfestival.com

Schedule

12.30-1.30pm

Arrival

Guests arrive at the Town Hall, and are taken upstairs to the Assembly Room. There will be volunteers to help with the less mobile.

1.30pm - 2.30pm

Activity: Senior Games

This is an optinional fun, seated, physical activity session delivered by a person from Wiltshire & Swindon Sport (WASP), and is designed to work up an appetite! Over the course of an hour, this musical session will encourage you to move every part of your body and get the brain working.

It is designed by the British Gymnastics Foundation to exercise the brain, reverse cognitive decline – and be a lot of fun.

2.30pm - 3.30pm

Afternoon Tea with The Polly Tea Rooms

After a good bit of movement, tea will be served! Courtesy of the Polly Tea Rooms, famous nationally for its cream teas, for literally decades! Tea, sandwiches, cakes, soft drinks and possibly a glass of wine…

4pm - 6.30pm

BFI Spotlight Screening of Singin’ In The Rain

The lovely people at BFI Spotlight are treating us to a classic – starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donal O’Connor.

‘A silent film star falls for a chorus girl, just as he and his jealous screen partner are making the difficult transition to talking pictures in 1920s Hollywood.’

A recipe for romance, intrigue and some of the best dancing ever seen on screen!

6.30pm-7pm

Carriages

…well, minibuses for those that need it, and Shank’s Pony for those that don’t!

Senior Games is endorsed by the British Gymnastics Foundation, designed to get the body and mind working, and to reduce/reverse cognitive decline.
